Kim Kardashian Has Officially Been Sued Over Her Skincare Line, SKKN

A little less than a year ago, Kim Kardashian decided to execute her idea of what “working” is, by getting her gradually-shrinking ass up and sauntering over to her office, to inform a boardroom table full of employees that she wanted to slap a new name on her KKW Beauty brand. Kim wanted to own a skincare company, because – in her words – she’s a person who likes to tell people about skincare stuff. So she created a skincare company titled SKKN. That’s when already an established skincare business called SKKN+ and threatened Kim with legal action. The bad news is, Kim brushed them off like 2022 Khloé brushing off a butt injection, and now SKKN+ has filed a lawsuit against Kim’s skincare company.

SKKN+ has been using that name since 2017, and they’re a small skincare salon based out of DC and New York. Last July, the owner of SKKN+, Cydnie Lunsford, threatened SKKN – Kim’s brand – with a cease-and-desist, on behalf of the LLC that owns SKKN+, Beauty Concepts. Cyndie accused Kim of shamelessly ripping off her company’s name, and claimed Kim was creating “confusion” between the two. Now Kim is straight-up being sued by Beauty Concepts because they want their name back, damn it! via TMZ:

Kim is being sued for trademark infringement over her new brands, SKKN and SKKN BY Kim, by a company out of Brooklyn called Beauty Concepts, which claims it owns the rights to “SKKN+” and says Kim’s use of the moniker on her beauty products is confusing customers.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Beauty Concepts says it’s a Black and woman-owned business that survived the pandemic, and moved up to a brick-and-mortar store only to learn Kim K was launching her new brand with a strikingly similar name.

Cyndie claims in her lawsuit that Beauty Concepts reached out to Kim when they heard that Kim had filed a trademark application for SKKN, to inform her that there was already a company trademarked as SKKN+, and to ask that her to please find another random grouping of vowel-deficient capital letters. Kim went ahead, and that’s why Cyndie decided to get lawyers involved.

But, according to Kim’s legal team, Cyndie’s lawsuit is nothing but a SHAKEDOWN! Or is it a SHKDWN? Kim’s attorney Michael Rhodes is arguing that SKKN BY KIM could never be confused for SKKN+, because Kim is a famous person, and nobody knows who Ms. Cyndie the Skincare Lady is. via TMZ:

“We applaud Ms. Lunsford for being a small business owner and following her dreams. But that doesn’t give her the right to wrongfully claim that we’ve done something wrong. In its letter, Beauty Concepts claimed to own rights to a logo made up of SKKN+, and had just filed for trademark protection for that logo. The business was a one-person shop offering facials from a single Brooklyn location. The salon had no signage and was by appointment only. To our knowledge, Beauty Concepts sold no products under the SKKN+ name.

Beauty Concepts asked that we drop the SKKN name. Of course, we said no. Beauty Concepts then challenged Ms. Kardashian’s trademark applications at the USPTO. Unsurprisingly, the USPTO rejected Beauty Concepts’ own SKKN+ mark saying that “skkn” just means “skin.” Undaunted, Beauty Concepts then tried to make its business seem more than it was – it leased a new storefront, changed its website, etc.”

Kim and Beauty Concepts are trying to figure out who has the rights to the word “SKKN,” whether it be accompanied by a plus sign or the words “BY KIM.” Kim’s attorney claims that Cyndie and Beauty Concepts only filed this lawsuit in an attempt to sway the trademark decision in their favor. But, Kim and Co. don’t believe it will do much good, because they’re a “global skincare line.” As for the accusations of a shakedown, Kim’s side believes that another reason Cyndie filed the lawsuit was a sneaky attempt to get Kim to just cut a fat check and settle this once and for all.

I highly doubt this will be the last time SKKN is dragged into a lawsuit. Kim claims that all the SKKN product components are “refillable,” and this is what she means by that:

Once Mother Nature sees Kim’s plastic bottle-in-a-plastic-bottle green-washing trash, she’s going to slap Kim with a cease-this-delusion.
