Elon Musk Made The Short List For Time Magazine’s Person Of The Year

As we all prepare to buy gifts we know we can’t afford, the richest person in the world, Elon Musk, is crying tears of joy and dabbing at his eyes with million-dollar bills after once again being added to the shortlist for Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. Or, perhaps he’s just crying because when he graced the cover last year, he wasn’t in the process of murdering Twitter with his ridiculous antics. Honestly, I don’t think he should have made the list in the first place because he’s a self-destructive demon.

According to Today, Time released its shortlist for the 2022 Person of the Year. As we know, Time’s Person of the Year isn’t Time’s Best Person of the Year. It’s the person or group who has made a big impact this year. The shortlist is all over the place.  It goes from dick rocket pioneer Jeff Bezos‘ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott, who spent a giant percentage of her fortune on philanthropic endeavors, to people like Elon. And his consistent destruction of Twitter provided enough controversy for his consideration.

This year, the billionaire topped the Forbes list of the World’s Richest People, and he also purchased Twitter for $44 billion in October after much public back and forth on whether he was going to move forward with the acquisition.

In the aftermath of his takeover, Musk gained criticism as he dismissed several of the company’s top executives, laid off about half of the platform’s 7,500 employees and rolled out a subscription service that allows users to pay for the platform’s oft-coveted blue check of verification.

The shortlist also includes Liz Cheney, China’s president Xi Jinping, the U.S. Supreme Court, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the protesters in Iran, Janet Yellen, Ron DeSantis, and gun safety advocates. In other words, there are several better choices than Elon.

Time will reveal its cover winner on tomorrow’s episode of Today, and I hope they do the right thing. But they’ll probably go with either Elon or DeSantis for shock value. Not that it matters to me since I stopped reading that mess years ago. And if these are the parameters Time uses to secure readership, then it’s time to make this the last year they do this. Obviously, the bar is set in Hell.
