Open Post: Hosted By The Twitch Streamer Who Nearly Burned Down Her Kitchen During A Live Stream

Most of us have had those near misses in the kitchen. Maybe you’ve almost sliced yourself when cutting an avocado or managed to set your toast aflame when prepping breakfast. Thankfully, only a few friends or relatives have witnessed your stunning incompetence in the kitchen. That wasn’t the case for Twitch streamer Kjanecaron who almost set her house on fire while thousands of viewers watched online. The Twitch streaming business is getting competitive, so I guess you gotta go the extra mile to get those subscribers!

Kjanecaron is just a simple streamer with over 90,000 subscribers. In an effort to increase her audience, she hosted a “subathon,” whereby each new “sub” a streamer receives extends the length of time of a stream. Some subathons can go on for days. While hosting her event, Kjanecaron decided to do a little cooking for the audience which led to some hot content (har har). Kotaku describes:

Streamer Kjanecaron was doing a subathon earlier today for her 92,000 followers and decided to spend some of that time doing some cooking. It was a bad idea.

As you can see in this video below, Kjanecaron had a camera setup in her kitchen to film herself cooking, and by the time this clip has started there is already smoke filling the kitchen, likely because she’s got the cooktop turned up too high and the pan has overheated.

It doesn’t take long for the food—whatever it is/was—to catch fire, which is when she makes a big mistake.

That “big mistake?” Pouring water on a grease fire! This is the kind of stuff you learn in elementary school: stop-drop-roll, don’t put water on a grease fire, and peeling dried glue off your hand is weirdly satisfying. Thankfully, the cabinets or dish rags didn’t catch and the master chef managed to settle the frying pan on the stove where the flames died out.

After almost remaking Firestarter, Kjanecaron cut off the stream. She later updated her subscribers with a message saying that the fire department came, and she just had a small burn on her hand. We can safely assume she got Chinese takeout after this. I’m not sure how many new subs she got from this, but hopefully they aren’t expecting this kind of activity on her upcoming streams. We’ve got gaming streams, prank streams, I don’t think the world needs “setting myself on fire for more subs” streams!
