Lisa Kudrow Recalls Jerry Seinfeld Taking Credit for 'Friends' Success

Lisa Kudrow is recalling an interesting conversation she once had with Jerry Seinfeld.

“I remember going to some party and Jerry Seinfeld was there, and I said, ‘Hi,’ and he said, ‘You’re welcome,’” Lisa recalled to The Daily Beast.

“I said, ‘Why, thank you … what?’” Lisa added.

Lisa
went on to say that Jerry then said to her, “You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome.”

While Friends initially premiered in 1994, Lisa explained that the show didn’t “explode” until the summer of 1995 when it was placed after re-runs of Jerry‘s show Seinfeld.

Back at the party, Lisa remembered graciously responding to Jerry by saying, “That’s exactly right. Thank you.”

However, Lisa did admit that Jerry had a point with his comment.

“Not to take anything away from the writing on Friends, or the cast, or how good Friends really was,” Lisa explained. “But the first season our ratings were just fine.”

In an interview from earlier this year, Lisa revealed the one and only way she’d be on board for a potential Friends reboot.
